Well.... once again you are probably wondering to yourself... "Hmmmm, what is up with this guy? He isn't updating and he says he's back to work on the plane." I can't say that your impression is wrong, I haven't updated and I haven't made a ton of progress but I have a good excuse this time, other than I am nearly done with school and have been trying to finish up my final papers. I have actually been around the world since the last time I updated. Thanks to a a bit of excellent opportunity and preparation (luck) at work, I was sent to Singapore for several weeks on a customer assignment. I am not one to let an opportunity like this slip by, especially given airfares these days, so I took the assignment and made the most of it. This trip took me half way around the world to Singapore, where I then visited the Island of Pulau Tioman, Mersing & Johor Bahru in the country of Malaysia on some spare time. I did a bit of diving in Pulau Tioman (otherwise known as paradise) and the diving was fantastic. But I'll get to that later... (Click read more below for the full article) |

Well, even though I didn't update last week, I did get a bit accomplished. I probably won't update the chapter areas until I have more pics but I have some time this week to get a bit of work done and plan on making progress. I managed to get the landing brake floxed into place and cured. I will have to do a bit of sanding and trimming though because it won't open to my satisfaction at this point. Not a hard fix or modification though. I also now have the landing gear to the point where I am ready to do the axle install. Not sure that I'll run the brake lines yet though. I may leave the legs off of the plane for now so that I can leave it on the rotiserie. I have been told to do all of the interior panels while the plane is still on the rotiserie so that it is easier to work on the inside. Seems reasonable to me. This past weekend I was visiting the Mouse down in Orlando, Fl with the family so I don't have any plane work to show for this week. Hey, everyone needs a vacation now and again. Planned for this week: - Work on that landing brake
- Re-cut the hole in the bottom for the actuator
- Work on the Brake actuator install
- Drill and tap the holes for the landing brake hinge
- Work on the Axles
- Align
- Cut the gear legs to shape
- Install

One of your jobs as a spouse is to support the other person’s dreams. In my case, I have a husband whose lifelong dream is to own an airplane. Not a remote controlled airplane or a part-ownership in a flying group (already there… 2 cessna 172s and a 182), but our own, honest-to-Goodness, airplane. Perhaps with our name on it… |

 Another good weeked on the 'Ye Olde Experimental Airplane Project"! I managed to work on a bundle of sections and get many things curing. I completed the attach tabs for the landing gear, worked on the first of two pads for the axles on the main gear, made progress on the landing brake and actually broke the seal on a new chapter Chapter 13 - Building the Aircraft Nose) just to get as much stuff curing as possible.

 Another week and another bit of progress.... I'm a bit late posting the updates, but the progress was made nonetheless. More work on the Landing gear where the axles, brakes and wheels will soon go. I also worked on the landing brake some more. (haven't taken all of those pictures yet but, I'll post them with the next update. I manufactured a template for the axles as well. Gotta make sure that everything ends up aligned.

 Today I got out there and got some real work done! Things are curing and I have made progress. I worked on the following things:
Chapter 9 - Step 3 - Landing Gear Attachment
Chapter 9 - Step 6 - Landing Brake (Air Brake / Speed Brake) I'm happy to be back at it... I really kicked up some foam dust today and felt quite good about what I accomplished after so much time off. Note: when you read a "Chapter - step" section (like that linked above in this entry) it is written in reverse chronological order, so the newest stuff is at the bottom of the page. As I make progress I append the article with a date so that it creates a log of the build. |
