Chapter 8 - Step 1 - Carving the Foam Pieces

February 6 2005 - Headrests and shoulder rests started
Well, because I am waiting for parts to cure in chapter 6 and all of chapter 7 is dependant upon chapter 6 I thought, why not do what you can will you're feeling the groove, so I started on this chapter.

I can't say a lot about what I have done so far other than the fact that I have cut out the parts from the foam (released their true form from the blue block it shipped as :-) per plans. I have also completed layups of one side of the headrests. I'll leave them in peel ply for now till I have time to get back to them. The shoulder rests are all fitted and the hard points have been 5-minute epoxied in but I haven't done the inner layup. I can't do that till I am ready for install because it requres that the layup still be a bit tacky when you put it on. I did cut out the small jigs from foam just for fun so that when I am ready I won't have to do it.

This begs the question: Am I going to do the "Dunce Cap" style headrests as per plans? I think so but with a small modification. I am going to "round" them up a bit on the corners so that they look a bit nicer and I think for the time being I will leave to bottom off the passeger side headrest so that I can put my headset plugs in there if I decide to do it there.

December 11, 2005 - Shoulder Rest Redux (call this step done now! - again)
When it was time to do the inside layup, I realized that the seatbelt insets (wood pieces, upper left) were in the wrong place. Now I could have left them because the only thing that it meant as far as I can figure is that I would need about 1/2 inch more seatbelt.... but NO! Fix it I did. I scrapped the whold bit because I then proceeded to 5 min epoxy the 2 pieces to gether wrong. So when I cut them back appart I just said "screw it". It took me all of 30 mins to redo both parts and cut the insets. This again makes me realize how much faster the second build goes. This part came out VERY good.

Oh! And don't to this (below). That stick is now permanently part of my plans.
