The centersectiion spar(see left - Sorry for the dimly lit picture) attaches the aircraft fuselage and strakes to the wings of the aircraft. It is incredibly strong and in the case of the cozy, incredibly light as well. About a year ago I wrote an entry here about having "skin in the game" and knowing that I was going to complete this aircraft. (Here is the article) This is the next step of that plan. So far I have already managed to get the canard section completed this way and now I have the center section spar.
For those of you who who don't have the back-story: Dennis Oelman (see the Suppliers section for contact info) is not only a serial aircraft builder (Seven I think), he his also a serial canard, spar, wing and winglet builder for the Cozy IV, Long EZ... etc. His craftsmanship is superior and it's an incredible boost toward completion for those looking to spend a little extra money andy a little less time building. It's a trade-off to be sure, but one I was willing to accept. Because of this I can call chapter 14 complete and issue a big thanks to Dennis for helping me move forward on this project while I am still in school. Here are a few picture of the spar. I'll take more later when I can move it onto the jig table and get it into some better light.

If you wan't, you can see every picture of the spar here... no here.... alright.... here they are. |
