December 4, 2005Ok... For starters, when you get your hinges from Wicks you put them away and when you are ready for this chapter you haven't thought about them for a while. Then the plans refer to a part number... All is well except that the part number for this hinge is stamped on the inside of the hinge :-). See blow left The middel pic is my first attempt at this. I ended up having to chisel the hinges off (no damage) and put them back on in the right place.... Argh.... I lost some sleep over this one. I thought for sure I was going to damage the crap out of the hinges getting them off, and then have to reorder them. Second time around a re-read the plans and consulted the group. All of the info was in the plans of course but a slight deviation from the plans on the contouring of the upper-longerons / sides threw me off. Man you have to remember where you change things or it will kill you later. Now I know why everyone says that every deviation from plans costs time. It's been true for me so far. Well that wraps this part up. This was actually done as a dependancy to chapter 8, before you can put the shoulder rest on, you have to get this hinge in there otherwise you cant get to the nut. That should explain why I suddently skipped to chapter 18. Or why it took so long for chapter 18 to complete.
